Ceramic veneers can be used to make carefully planned changes to the shape, proportion, colour and overall appearance of teeth.
At Station St Dental, we approach veneers as part of aesthetic and restorative dentistry, rather than simply as a cosmetic procedure. Our preference is for natural-looking results that complement the individual patient — and for preserving healthy natural tooth structure wherever possible.
Veneers aren’t the right solution for every aesthetic concern. Before recommending them, we consider the condition of the teeth, existing restorations, your bite and the other treatment options available.

What Is a Ceramic Veneer?

A ceramic veneer is a thin, custom-made restoration that is bonded to the front and, where necessary, other surfaces of a tooth.

Modern dental ceramics allow veneers to reproduce many of the characteristics of natural enamel, including subtle differences in colour, translucency and surface texture.

Veneers may be considered when addressing:

Chipped or fractured front teeth
Worn or shortened teeth
Uneven tooth shapes or proportions
Gaps between teeth
Discolouration that cannot be adequately improved with whitening
Existing restorations that compromise the appearance of the smile
A combination of aesthetic concerns affecting several teeth

A Conservative Approach to Veneers

Although veneers can be relatively conservative restorations, some alteration of the natural tooth is often required and the treatment should be regarded as irreversible.

For this reason, we first consider whether a simpler or more conservative treatment could achieve the desired result. Depending on the individual patient, alternatives might include whitening, composite bonding, clear aligner treatment or sometimes no treatment at all.

When veneers are appropriate, careful planning can allow us to preserve as much healthy enamel and tooth structure as reasonably possible.

Planning the Result

Successful veneer treatment begins well before the ceramic is made.

We use a combination of clinical examination, photography and digital scanning to assess the teeth, smile and bite. For more involved cases, additional planning can help us evaluate proposed changes to tooth shape and proportion before proceeding with definitive treatment.

This stage is also an opportunity for you to explain what you like — and don’t like — about your smile.

Our aim isn’t to create a standardised or excessively uniform smile. We want the final restorations to belong to the person wearing them.

The final appearance of a veneer depends on much more than simply choosing a tooth colour. Shape, proportion, translucency, surface texture and the way the ceramic interacts with light all contribute to whether a restoration looks natural.
